Notes in this connection the breakthrough in inland shipping technology which has made it possible to reduce emissions from existing ships' engines substantially, and the possible use of Liquid Natural Gas as fuel; calls on the Commission to investigate whether these techniques can also be used in seagoing vessels and how the implementation of these techniques can be accelerated;
