Calls on the Commission to create a holistic regulatory framework to promote vehicle-to-everything (V2X) connectivity for highly and fully automated vehicles (e.g. platooning) to make, especially long haul, road transport safer, cleaner, more efficient and more environmentally friendly; stresses the importance of facilitating public acceptance at the same time by a gradual approach of operational use of automated vehicles (AVs) in the heavy truck sector under real-traffic conditions;
