Notes that the concentration of funding advocated in the context ofspirit behind the revision of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) regulation can often be achieved by supporting large-scale projects for which the budget exceeds the EUR 50 million thresholdand, in particular, the principle of concentration of funding, can also be put into practice by supporting large-scale projects;

4. Regards the Pompei project, which was carried out under the 2007-2013 ERDF, as a prime example of such concentration and of the benefits of safeguarding Europe’s unique cultural heritage, as reflected by the Commission’s direct and constant involvement in, and supervision of, the project;
