    The European Parliament adopted the report by Mrs ROTHE (PSE, D) on the amendment to Directive 70/524 concerning additives in feedingstuffs. The only amendment adopted in plenary relates to Article 1, paragraph 9, and stipulates that additives may only be used if incorporated into feedingstuffs. A different method of administration may only be considered for concentrations of vitamins/trace elements. Protection for animals and consumers must be guaranteed by limiting marketing permits. The adoption of this amendment invalidates amendment 3 adopted by the Committee on Agriculture. In addition, Mrs ROTHE's report on the proposal for a decision defining the groups of additives used in feedingstuffs subject to a permit relating to the person responsible for marketing was rejected.�

    The proposal for a directive amending Directive No 70/524 provides that, for reasons of safety both in human and in animal and environmental health, the authorisation of additives belonging to certain groups will in future be linked to those responsible for entry into free circulation. The purpose of this proposal is therefore to list the groups: antibiotics, coccidiostatics and other medicinal substances, growth factors. �
