    In adopting the report by Mr Gunter LÜTTGE (PSE, D), the European Parliament took stock of the third pan-European Transport Conference which the Commission was to hold in Helsinki in June 1997. The main Conference themes were to be: cross-border problems, planning, price setting and research. Parliament proposed that the Conference should extend the preliminary work which was started in Prague and Crete and that it should focus on the problems which will constitute the challenges of the years ahead, namely the rational use of trans-European networks, transport security, the relationship between transport and the environment and the financing of infrastructures. Parliament recognized the importance of revising the corridors scheme, as presented in Crete, and expressed the wish that this scheme should mention and include two regions which did not appear in the first list, in particular the Euro-Arctic corridor for north-eastern Europe (Sweden, Finland and Russia) and the necessary multimodal links in the territory of the former Yugoslavia. Finally, Parliament called for the establishment of close coordination with the CIS countries, along the same lines as the 'structured dialogue' held with the CEECs, in the field of trans-European transport and networks. �
