  In adopting the report by Mrs Christina KLASS (PPE, D), Parliament approved the proposal for a regulation allowing all Member States to use the term 'Crémant' but proposed, as an additional requirement, the criterion that traditional wine varieties should be used. This would open up the possibility of marketing Crémant under regional labels. Parliament called for prohibition of the use of 'Champagne'-type bottles for imitation sparkling wines. It also called for the labelling to include the name or business name of the producer of quality sparking wines psr, the name of the commune or part of commune and of the Member State where the producer has his registered place of business. The labelling may be supplemented with the name of the vendor established in the Community. �

SUBSTANCE: under the proposed Regulation: - new specific traditional terms may be used in Germany to designate quality wines produced in specified regions (qwpsr); and - the name of a new qwpsr may be used for a transitional period to designate table wines which have traditionally been called by that name. �
