  OBJECTIVE: to amend Directive 93/53/EEC introducing minimum Community measures for the control of certain fish diseases with a view to limiting its scope to the viral diseases of fish. SUBSTANCE: this proposed amendment is a consequence of classifying gyrodactylose as a list II serious disease under Directive 91/67/EEC, which would render the requirements of Directive 93/53/EEC applicable to gyrodactylus salaris. However, these measures are designed for the control of viral diseases and cannot therefore be applied as such to the parasite gyrodactylus salaris. The scope of Directive 93/53/EEC must therefore be limited to viral diseases only. �
