  In adopting the report by Mr Umberto Scapagnini (UPE, I), Parliament approved the proposal for a Council Directive repealing Directive 75/339/EEC obliging the Member States to maintain minimum stocks of fossil fuel at thermal power stations. �

  OBJECTIVE: repeal of Directive 75/339/EEC obliging the Member States to maintain minimum stocks of fossil fuel at thermal power stations. SUBSTANCE: this Directive was adopted in the wake of the oil crisis in the 1970s in order to help to improve the Community's security of supply. The Commission believes that, were a crisis to arise, the Directive would no longer be useful to improve electricity supplies. It therefore proposes to repeal it. �
