  By adopting the report by Mrs Nicole PERY (PSE, F), the European Parliament approved retrospectively the extension for one month (2 October - 1 November 1996) of the fisheries agreement between the EU and Senegal. This extension will have enabled some Community vessels affected by the biological resting period in Mauritanian waters to fish off Senegal during that period.�

  OBJECTIVE: to conclude an Agreement in the form of an exchange of letters between Senegal and the Community with a view to extending by one month (2 October 1996-1 November 1996) the current EC-Senegal Fisheries Protocol. SUBSTANCE: this extension is needed so that negotiations can continue without any suspension of fishing by Community vessels, of which there are over 60, in Senegal's waters. �
