  The aim of this proposal is the consolidation of Council Directive 89/392/EEC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to machinery. The new directive will supersede the various directives incorporated in it; their content is fully preserved, and it only brings them together, making only such formal amendments as are required by the codification exercise itself. �
