    OBJECTIVE: to approve, on behalf of the Community, the amendments made to the Bonn Convention in April 1997. SUBSTANCE: Since June 1982, the Community has been a contracting party to the Bonn Convention on the conservation of migratory species of wild animals. At the fifth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention in April 1997, 21 endangered migratory species were added to Appendix I to the Convention and 22 species to Appendix II. As a contracting party, the Community is now required to approve these amendments, as, in accordance with Article XI of the Convention, the amendments enter into force for all Parties 90 days after the meeting of the Conference of the Parties. This is the purpose of the proposal.�
