  OBJECTIVE: to modify Regulation (EEC) No 1323/90 in order to increase the percentage of specific aid for sheep and goat farming in certain less-favoured areas of the Community ("rural society" premium). CONTENT: the European Commission proposes to increase the "rural society" premium granted for milk sheep and goats in certain less-favoured areas from 70% to 90%. This increase is justified by the fact that producers in these areas have seen their income eroded by the difficulties inherent in the market for the milk products marketed from these animals. The increase will apply with effect from the 1998 marketing year. �
