  OBJECTIVE: the draft regulation seeks to extend by one year the EU cofinancing of the four olive oil inspection agencies in order to ensure that they operate properly and to increase their administrative autonomy. CONTENT: the regulation provides for 50% of the agencies actual expenditure for the 1998/1999 marketing year to be met by the general budget of the European Communities. In view of the fact that a draft reform of the COM for olive oil is currently under consideration, the continued EU cofinancing of agencies depends on when this reform will be introduced. The Commission will review the need to continue EU participation in the expenditure of the agencies before 1 October 1998. �
