  OBJECTIVE: to amend Directive 67/548/EEC as regards the labelling of certain dangerous substances in Austria and Sweden. SUBSTANCE: the accession treaty of Austria, Finland and Sweden provided for certain derogations from Directive 67/548/EEC relating to the labelling of certain dangerous substances. Most of these derogations were reviewed, to the satisfaction of all the Member States, during the revision period provided for by the Treaty, namely 01/01/1995 to 31/12/1998. However, it was not possible to complete the review on the above-mentioned labelling issues in time. The purpose of the amendments proposed is to: a) permit Austria to require the use of: - the supplementary pictogram 'crossed-out dustbin' concerning waste disposal, and - the supplementary S-phrase 'Antidote exists, medical staff contact Poisons Information Centre', which concerns measures to be taken in the event of an accident; b) permit Sweden to require the use of: - the supplementary R-phrase R-322 'May be harmful if swallowed' for substances classified in Sweden as 'moderately harmful', and - the R-phrase R-340 for substances classified as category 3 carcinogenic, instead of phrase R-40. For these two countries, these derogations apply from 1/01/1999 to 31/12/2000.�
