  PURPOSE: to amend regulation 2377/90 laying down a Community procedure for the establishment of maximum residue limits of veterinary medicinal products in foodstuffs of animal origin. CONTENT: the Commission proposes adapting regulation 2377/90/EEC by assigning to the European Agency for the assessment of medicines the task of dealing with requests for the establishment, modification and extension of maximum residue limits and by aligning the decision-making process with that of centralised procedure (role of the agenct secretariat, deadlines, appeals). It is also necessary to adapt the deadline for submission of projects and measures to the regulatory committee in order to allow the Community to fulfil its obligations resulting from the agreement on the application of sanitary and phytosanitary measures, concluded during Uruguay round negotiations and approved by the Community.�
