    In adopting by 414 votes for, 29 against and 11 abstentions the report tabled by Ms. Barbara DUHRKOP-DUHRKOP (PES, E) and Mr. Juan FABRA VALLES (EPP-ED, E), the European Parliament agreed with the supplementary and amending budget 1/99 as it stands (surplus for the 1998 financial year).�

    On 28.06.1999, the Council adopted the draft supplementary and amending budget no. 1/99 concerning the Commission and confirmed, for the most part, the Commission's proposal to include in the 1999 budget the balance of the 1998 budget, which amounts to 1.544 million Euros.�

    PURPOSE: Proposal of a draft supplementary and amending budget for the year 1999 concerning the Commission. CONTENT: In accordance with the financial regulation, the Commission is proposing to the budgetary authority a draft supplementary and amending budget no.1/99 concerning section III (Commission) which relates solely to the outcome of the 1998 year to be written into the 1999 budget, as well as certain revenue aspects. The Commission's proposal may be summarised as follows : 1) the inclusion in the budget of the surplus of the 1998 year which amounts to 3.022 million Euros and, following the subtraction of 1.400 million Euros that were already written into the 1999 budget on the basis of provisional estimates and the addition of 78 million Euros representing the surplus of own resources resulting from the virement to the EAGGF-Guarantee monetary reserve, at 1.544 million Euros; 2) the revision of the rectification of the budgetary inbalances, following the definitive calculation of the correction with respect to the 1995 financial year which results in a reduction in the UK's contribution of 537.4 million Euros (the sum to be written in therefore amounts to 3.921,2 million - 537,4 million = 3.393,8 million Euros); 3) the revision in the reduction in revenues arising from customs duties to the amount of 511 million Euros and, in addition, the updating of VAT and GNP assessments.�
