summary
The Parliament adopted a resolution welcoming the drafting of a new EU plan to combat organised crime. The resolution emphasises the need for Council to consult Parliament on all aspects of the EU's strategy. MEPs are concerned at delays in reaching agreement in moves to confiscate the proceeds of crime and want this given priority by ministers. Council is requested to take action to reduce the demand for illegal goods and national authorities to make more use of new technology in tackling criminals. Legislative proposals at both EU and national levels should be analysed for the potential impact on crime. The Parliament also believes that more should be done to address social deprivation.
