  PURPOSE : to adjust the basic salaries and allowances applicable to Europol staff. CONTENT : the Initiative proposed by the Kingdom of Sweden aims to adjust the basic salaries and allowances applicable to Europol staff as well as those which were paid to them in order to take into consideration the re-examination of the level of basic salaries of Europol staff by its Management Board. To recap, Europol's Management Board regularly reviews the level of basic salaries in order to take account of the changes in costs of living in the Netherlands (the Hague, Europol's headquarters) as well as the changes in salaries in the public service in the Member States and the recruitment needs of Europol. In view of this review, a 2,5% increase has thus been envisaged for the period between 01.07.2000 and 01.07.2001. It is for the Council, acting unanimously, to adjust the basic salaries and allowances of officials of Europol, on the basis of the review.�
