summary
The European Parliament adopted by 264 votes to 28, with 253 abstentions, a resolution on the human rights situation in Tunisia.The resolution was tabled by the ALDE, PES, Greens/EFA, GUE/NGL and UEN groups.Recalling the worsening of the human rights situation in Tunisia, the Parliament calls on the Tunisian authorities to fulfil their international commitments and expects explanations for the acts of violence against defenders of human rights and Tunisian judges. It also calls on the Presidency of the Council to make a public statement on the ban and to organise a meeting of the Association Council in order to discuss the human rights situation in Tunisia.At the same time, the Parliament calls on the Council and the Commission to take swiftly all necessary steps vis-à-vis the Tunisian authorities to ensure that European funding allocated to civil society projects is unblocked.Lastly, the Parliament calls for better cooperation between the Tunisian Presidency in terms of respecting human rights.
