LEGISLATIVE ACT: Council Directive 2008/72/EC on the marketing of vegetable propagating and planting material, other than seed (Codified version).

CONTENT: the purpose of this Directive is to undertake a codification of Council Directive 92/33/EEC on the marketing of vegetable propagating and planting material, other than seed. The new Directive will supersede the various acts incorporated in it. This Directive fully preserves the content of the acts being codified and hence does no more than bring them together with only such formal amendments as are required by the codification exercise itself.

Details

The European Parliament adopted, by 596 to 15 with 13 abstentions a legislative resolution under the consultation procedure approving the Commission proposal on the marketing of vegetable propagating and planting material, other than seed (codified version).

The report was tabled for plenary by Lidia Joanna GERINGER DE OEDENBERG (PES, PL) on behalf of the Legal Affairs Committee. The proposal was approved as adapted to the recommendations of the Consultative Working Party of the Legal Services of the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission.

Details

The Committee on Legal Affairs adopted the report by Lidia Joanna GERINGER DE OEDENBERG (PES, PL) approving, under the consultation procedure, the proposal for a Council directive on the marketing of vegetable propagating and planting material, other than seed (codified version).

While no “formal” amendments were made to the proposal, the committee nevertheless took note of the recommendations of the Consultative Working Party of the legal services of the European Parliament, Council and Commission, which considered that the text of the proposal should not include any new amendments in relation to the initial text of the European Commission.

The proposal is a straightforward codification of existing texts, without any change in their substance.
