summary
The European Parliament decided by 629 votes to 12, with 20 abstentions, not to waive the immunity of Hannes SWOBODA (an Austrian MEP). Mr Swoboda is pursued in Austria for defamation. Following the opinion of the Legal Affairs Committee, Parliament considers that Mr Swoboda was expressing his point of view on fundamental European Union issues in the context of his current mandate as an MEP. Parliament therefore considers that his immunity should be defended.
