Details

PURPOSE: to codify the legislation regarding the free movement of workers within the Community.

LEGISLATIVE ACT: Regulation (EU) No 492/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council on freedom of movement for workers within the Union.

CONTENT: the purpose of this Regulation is to codify Regulation (EEC) No 1612/68 of the Council of 15 October 1968 on freedom of movement for workers within the Community. The new Regulation supersedes the various acts incorporated in it. It fully preserves the content and does no more than bring them together with only such formal amendments as are required by the codification exercise itself.

Details

The European Parliament adopted by 565 votes to 10, with 19 abstentions, a legislative resolution on the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on freedom of movement for workers within the Union (codified version).

It adopted its position at first reading under the ordinary legislative procedure (formerly known as the codecision procedure) taking over the Commission’s proposal.

According to the Consultative Working Party of the legal services of the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission, the proposal in question contains a straightforward codification of the existing texts without any change in their substance.

The Committee on Legal Affairs adopted the report drawn up by Lidia Joanna GERINGER de OEDENBERG (S&D, PL) on the proposal for a regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on freedom of movement for workers within the Union (codified version).

It recommended that the European Parliament’s position at first reading under the ordinary legislative procedure (formerly known as the codecision procedure) should take over the Commission proposal, taking into account the recommendations of the Consultative Working Party of the legal services of the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission.

PURPOSE: to codify Council Regulation (EEC) No 1612/68 on freedom of movement for workers within the Community.

PROPOSED ACT: Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council.

CONTENT: the purpose of this proposal is to undertake a codification of Council Regulation (EEC) No 1612/68 of 15 October 1968 on freedom of movement for workers within the Community. The new Regulation will supersede the various acts incorporated in it.
