The European Parliament adopted by 578 votes to 14, with 9 abstentions, a legislative resolution on the proposal for a directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on braking devices of wheeled agricultural or forestry tractors (codified text).Parliament adopted its position at first reading, under the ordinary legislative procedure, taking over the Commission proposal. According to the Consultative Working Party of the legal services of the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission, the proposal in question contains a straightforward codification of the existing texts without any change in their substance.

PURPOSE: to undertake a codification of Council Directive 76/432/EEC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to the braking devices of wheeled agricultural or forestry tractors.PROPOSED ACT: Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council.LEGAL BASE: Article 114 of the treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU).CONTENT: the purpose of this proposal is to undertake a codification of Council Directive 76/432/EEC of 6 April 1976 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to the braking devices of wheeled agricultural or forestry tractors. The new Directive will supersede the various acts incorporated in it. This proposal fully preserves the content of the acts being codified and hence does no more than bring them together with only such formal amendments as are required by the codification exercise itself.BUDGETARY IMPLICATION: this proposal has no implication for the EU budget.
