1909/11/16 - Tunisi (Tunisia)

  • Having interrupted studies in law, attended the Academy of Fine Arts at Tunis and subsequently worked as an artist in Italy. On returning to Tunisia, initiated trade union activity and joined the Tunisian Communist Party. For his anti-Fascist activities in Tunisia and Paris he was sentenced by default to five years imprisonment by the govvernment of Mussolini. Arrested in 1941, he was tortured and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Pétainist military tribunal. On liberation, arrived at the beginning of 1944 in Naples, where he became a militant member of the Italian Communist Party.
  • Member, Central Committee, Italian Communist Party since 1979; former member of party's Central Control Committee and the Secretariat of the Naples Communist Federation.
  • Member of Naples City Council since 1970. Former provincial councillor 1952. Mayor of Naples 1975-1983. Senator of the Republic 1953-1968.
  • He has exhibited his paintings in individual and collective exhibitions.
  • Legion of Honour (France).
