Stresses the pre-eminent importance of road transport and road improvements for the connectivity and competitiveness of regional enterprises; stresses in particular the importance of road connections for the economic development of peripheral and outermost regions; calls for improved and sustainable interlinking of road and rail networks in the form of more freight transhipment points;
