Amendment 1 #
Draft opinion Paragraph 2 2. Notes that during 2019 the Undertaking has progressed towards achieving its targets, delivering the Shift2Rail Programme implementation ensuring an effective and efficient sound financial management; Notes that it is estimated that the total project cost of the activities performed in 2019 amounts to EUR 117.5 million (of which EUR 98.9 million by the Other members) ;

Draft opinion Paragraph 5 5. Notes that, in 2019, the Undertaking awarded 17 grants as a result of the 2019 call launched in January 2019 to be co-funded by the Undertaking up to EUR 74,8 million (for a total value of EUR 148,6 million); notes with regret that only 90 SMEs participated to the 2019 call (76 in 2018, 120 in 2017) and 40 SMEs (= in 2018) were retained for funding (19, 7 of all retained participants for funding, 21,6% in 2018);

Draft opinion Paragraph 6 a (new) 6 a. Supports the proposed establishment of Rail European Partnership on R&I to build on the success of the Undertaking; highlights the need to explore opportunities for funding of programmes and projects under EU programmes such as Connecting Europe Facility, Digital Europe Plan, European Regional Development Fund and Cohesion Fund, as well as to develop synergies between the new Partnership and existing funding mechanisms;
Amendment 4 #
Draft opinion Paragraph 6 a (new) 6 a. Highlights the role of the Undertaking in contributing to the objectives of the European Green Deal; welcomes in this respect, the research and innovation efforts of the Shift2Rail to achieve more sustainable, digital, competitive, reliable and attractive railway system to Europe;

Draft opinion Paragraph 6 b (new) 6 b. Believes that the successor of the Shift2Rail should include in the research programme joint work with other modes of transport to pave the way towards seamless and integrated transport;
Amendment 6 #
Draft opinion Paragraph 6 c (new) 6 c. Stresses the resilience of the rail sector and its contribution to maintaining the supply chain during the COVID-19 outbreak; believes however, that the rail sector will not be able to compete on the transport market, without further automation and digitalisation; calls on the Shift2Rail successor to take this challenge as one of its priorities;
